OUR MISSION
When we took the first steps to turn this once public bathhouse into
a gym/cafe/theater, its tenants were mainly pigeons.
The Brooklyn Lyceum is constantly evolving, building, changing- sometimes slower than we like, sometimes faster than we expect. We have a huge space in a Landmarked building, so things run a bit differently, and we often rely on partnering relationships with organizations and the community to fulfill an event’s vision.
We seek to represent Brooklyn, for all its rich history and its blossoming future.
From Feature Film shoots to high school plays, Brooklyn Lyceum’s events range from community collaborations to professional productions across many different mediums and audiences.
The Lyceum seeks to evolve without being beholdant to one current trend or artistic model. Our seeming identity crisis of programming is also our gem- truly diverse and divergent events seek to bring all audiences through our doors, evoking the spirit of the Medieval marketplace, where entertainment, artisan goods and cultural activities all converge. We have everything but the public hangings.
We invite you to be part of this growing Brooklyn space- get involved: volunteer, intern, usher, come visit the café and chat up the history, listen to jazz on Wednesday nights or sketch comedy over the weekend. There’s something for everyone.
