COCKTAILS ON MARS — STEREO RADIO THEATER AT BROOKLYLN LYCEUM
Fresh from a successful (if hurricane-prone) run at the NY International Fringe Festival, sketch
comedy duo Stereo Radio Theater blows into Brooklyn to kick off “Gowanagus,” the Brooklyn Lyceum’s new open run initiative, for six weeks starting March 13, 2012.
“Hilarious,” “deeply well written and cathartic”
(nytheatre.com)
“Honestly one of, if not the best two person sketch show I have ever seen. 10 out of 10!”
(broadwayworld.com)
Minimalist and deceptively elegant, with a dash of early ‘60s retro, “Stereo Radio Theater” employs two people, a pair of chairs and a handful of props to tell stories of the exotic made uncomfortably familiar, and the everyday gone suddenly, awfully awry. Director Andrew Shulman and writer Maureen FitzGerald perform smart, articulate, character-driven material rooted as deeply in legitimate theater as in traditional sketch comedy. The result is a mid-century throwback, with a nod to the “cool and dry” style of comics like Nichols and May, but with a decidedly contemporary edge.
