It will have been just over a year since we hosted Brooklyn Contra. Welcome back....

If you can walk, you can contra dance. No partner or experience is nessecary. Each dance begins with a 30 minute beginners workshop that teaches you the basic moves. Once the dancing begins, the caller announces each move in real time so you'll always know what's going on. We've asked experienced dancers to wear mardi gras beads. If someone is wearing beads they have agreed to be helpful, friendly and encouraging to new dancers. If you are new, seek these people out. They will make your experience more enjoyable. If you've come with another new dancer, meet up with them after you've had a chance to dance with someone more experienced. It will make your dance with them better! There's no kind of special shoes or clothes that need to be worn although soft soled shoes are better for twirling, As are flowy skirts and tops! If you have any questions, feel free to ask!
